On a cold Sunday afternoon in the middle of March our intrepid swimming team entered the Swimarathon at the Abbeygate Leisure Centre. Our team, Melanie Dolman, Carole Day, Karen Smart and Lucy Moore (Sue Howard’s daughter) represented Citizens Advice West Suffolk at the Rotary Club’s annual swimming event. For 50 minutes they swam as fast as they could against other teams from local charities and schools.
All the teams at the event swam in one of three sessions and included representatives from The Samaritans, Guide Dogs for the Blind and St Nicholas’ Hospice. In our session we came a creditable third swimming more than 2,000 metres against an overpowering team from one of the local schools who had a team of six! Thanks to the generosity and kindness of our sponsors, many of who work as volunteers and staff here in our offices we raised a fantastic £1,058 which will go towards our costs incurred in running our service. So well done swimmers and sponsors. Here’s to next year!
