This year the event was held at The Baltic Amber Restaurant in Phoenix Road and before too long the restaurant was full of excited and often frenzied racegoers. After sedately accepting and consuming the welcome drinks provided by Epicentre, racegoers moved onto what seemed like a never ending buffet, with the usual buffet favourites spiced up with tempting Lithuanian dishes. The races themselves drew great and increasingly noisy support from the crowd of over fifty people and the grand climax, the Chairman’s Race sponsored by the Anatolia Grill Restaurant, was won by Ashley Green of Bourne Property Maintenance (pictured) whose horse (he purchased it beforehand in the auction) not only won but earned him over £160 after he wisely backed it.
The evening was a great success, with our regular sponsors, Peasgood and Skeates Funeral Directors, Fairhurst Menhuin Solicitors, 1 Accounts, Epicentre, Preview Properties, Hackett and Griffey LLP and Saffron Insurance providing sponsored support. Hughes Electrics, Chapmans, Cineworld, Tesco and Abbeycroft Leisure led the many generous donors of raffle prizes.
The proceeds of £840 went to Citizens Advice West Suffolk and the Haverhill team of staff and volunteers were among the race crowd and provided some of the sought after raffle prizes.
