Citizens Advice has developed its strength as a national campaigning organisation, and we are proud to support their campaigns through submitting some of the problems we see with policies and practices. Over the year we have submitted 235 anonymous cases of policies which have impacted unfairly on our clients, primarily in benefits, but also in consumer and debt problems.
We have a close working relationship with Trading Standards and support their Scams awareness campaign each year; it is unfortunately a growing problem with many local examples.
Our main focus for influencing change over the past year has been the advent of Universal Credit, welcomed in its aim to simplify the benefits system but with many problems in its implementation. We have very useful monthly meetings with the Jobcentre, the Local Authority and other stakeholders, where we have found a real determination to make the processes work better for claimants and have supplied our evidence in cases where this does not happen.
